Time flows slowly in a stillness broken only by the occasional passerby navigating through places steeped in history and tradition. Centuries-old buildings and solitary figures emerge from shifting patterns of blazing light and deep shadows. To convey the mood and atmosphere of life in this remarkable yet lesser-known Spanish region at the height of summer, I chose a grainy black-and-white style.
