Reportage Fotografici - Opening pic.jpg

Stefano Gulmanelli is an Italian-Canadian photographer based in Vancouver. He holds a PhD in Sociology and International Relations and teaches at the University of British Columbia, where he bridges academic inquiry with artistic practice to explore culture, identity, and society.

His career began in international photo reportage, published in leading Italian travel magazines, before evolving beyond documentary work into a more subjective and experimental approach. His photography highlights perception, form, and detail, transforming the everyday into open spaces for multiple interpretations.

He has collaborated with musicians, painters, and poets — from a project in Namibia with the underground rock band AFA, to the interactive forum Dialogo Muto with painter Andrea Padovani, and the visual component of Arianna Dagnino’s poetry collection To Die Like a Poem. His work has been exhibited in Canada and Italy, balancing documentary experience with artistic exploration.
